Man as Industrial Palace (1926)

Are the hierarchies of capitalism as natural as our bodies? In this diagram by the German pioneer of information graphics Fritz Kahn, the body is depicted as a giant factory. However, this image is not without ideological assumptions. If the body is a factory, then one might also assume that the factory is a body and its organizational hierarchy with managers in the brain and the workers slaving away in the bowels is just as natural as biological processes, and there is nothing one can do to change things.
